TLDR: I just sat down with Michael Kratsios, the White House Science Advisor and head of OSTP, to talk about how we 10x, potentially 100x, breakthroughs in science.
This is absolutely where we have to spend (invest) our national treasure. Not on putting men, instead of robots, on Mars. We spent too much on Apollo-type programs for too little return. Basic science is going to explode with the addition of AI, and this is where we need to invest in the foreseeable future, not slinging hardware at the Moon or Mars.
The elephant in the room is the dependency on these massive policy shifts on the administration. Clearly these programs will need to span across presidential elections. Said another way, if the admin changes in 2028 are these policies at risk of defunding, de-prioritizing, etc.? And no injecting politics into my comment...I'm strictly wondering what the mechanics are behind executing to these programs and if they are immune to admin regime change (or to what extent)...
Good luck with that. To improve the food quality you have to attack the corruption in the FDA and production of food. I.E. just recently, a report was released that foods supposedly made with avocado oil are 84-93% adulterated with vegetable oils.
Consumers paying a premium price attempting to distance themselves from harmful seed oils, becoming victims of fraud. Then there's the mess with crops seeds, bread that isn't bread, and the list goes on at great length.
Until incentives are aligned with consistent heavy consequences for deceit, nothing changes.

Optimism is great...but cynicism must stand at it's left hand to caution it's sight. A all AI/Robot led research facility sounds great, till you read articles of how AI continues to learn and practice deception.
Until I see as much emphasis on guard rails to prevent that, this is merely a pipe dream. Here's an example of what I'm talking about with AI Agents escaping their parameters and practicing dark web methods.
