Peter, your framing of AI advancements on a dizzying scale is very compelling, but there’s an interesting asymmetry in today’s public conversation.

While AI is accelerating at a breathtaking pace, it is still fundamentally riding the scaling curves of classical computing. (Moore’s Law). In parallel, quantum computing is progressing along a very different trajectory. This is often described by Neven’s Law, where capability growth may be doubly exponential.

That kind of curve implies something profoundly counter-intuitive to the scaling laws of the last 30 years. This new paradigm shows that there will be long periods of “not quite working,” followed by an extremely rapid transition into “game-changing tech” and quickly moving into “civilization-level impact”.

What’s striking is not just the technology itself, but the relative quiet surrounding it. For something that could reshape security, materials, optimization, drug discovery, and AI itself, quantum computing receives remarkably little mainstream dialogue compared to AI. Given how deeply intertwined these two domains are likely to become, the silence feels disproportionate to the stakes.

I actually wrote and published a book last month called “Loki’s Shield” about the AI+Q convergence, as a research exercise driven by this gap. It’s an attempt to explore the convergence dynamics because there simply isn’t enough accessible discussion yet. It raises a question I keep coming back to: When do we begin hearing more of our leading futurists and technologists speak not just about AI’s trajectory, but about the AI+quantum convergence and the discontinuities it may introduce?

The next wave may not simply be “more AI,” but an entirely new computational era.
